In December 2024, our ambassador, Rev. Randall Phillips, boarded a short flight from Mombasa to Nairobi unaware that a simple act of obedience would help launch a life-changing mission.
Rev. Randall had just completed his first mission trip to Kenya. During that visit, he met with local ministers and a construction partner to explore a bold idea: bringing clean water to underserved communities in eastern Kenya. After prayer and discussion, they agreed—despite limited resources—that the need was too great to ignore. Many families are walking miles each day just to access unsafe water.
As a municipal water treatment operator in Oklahoma, Randall knew he didn’t have the financial means to fund even a single well. But he also knows the One he serves. In faith, he trusted that God would make a way.
While boarding his flight, Randall felt a quiet but persistent prompting from the Holy Spirit to speak to the man seated beside him, a friendly stranger wearing a white head covering. Though initially hesitant, Randall chose obedience and simply said, “Hello.”
That moment changed everything.
The man introduced himself as Rev. Sammy Thiong’o, a Bishop and former head of the Kenya Water Ministry. What began as a casual conversation quickly revealed a profound connection: both men were ministers… and both were deeply involved in community water works.
As they spoke, Sammy shared that he had access to critical water mapping resources and could help navigate the Kenyan government permitting process. Then he paused and said something neither would forget:
“I believe this is God...”
Randall agreed.
They exchanged contact information and parted ways, but the seed had been planted.
Nearly a year later, Randall returned to Kenya and reached out again. This time, the connection deepened. They met in Nairobi, and Randall was invited to engage with a ministry council at Sammy’s church. Together, they expanded support for local food ministries and began shaping a larger vision.
Through prayer, counsel, and shared faith, the two leaders developed a five-phase plan to address water scarcity and community needs across Kenya.
That plan is now known as the
Today, the project is actively underway in Phase I to expand water access in Kiambu County and introduce rainwater harvesting systems to serve families and communities, reducing dependence on distant and unreliable water sources.
What began as a single “hello” has become a growing movement of faith, service, and transformation.
We believe this work was set in motion by God, and we invite you to be part of it.
